Jersey Mike's Arena is the home of Rutgers Scarlet Knights basketball in Piscataway, New Jersey, seating about 8,000 on the university's Livingston Campus. It was long known as the Rutgers Athletic Center, or 'the RAC,' and its steep, trapezoidal seating bowl produces some of the loudest acoustics in the Big Ten when full. It also hosts Rutgers wrestling, volleyball, and gymnastics. The compact, no-frills design keeps fans close to the court, and student sections have helped Rutgers pull off signature upsets here.
The arena opened on November 30, 1977, with a win over rival Seton Hall, and even hosted the NBA's New Jersey Nets from 1977 to 1981. It carried the Rutgers Athletic Center name until 1986, when it was renamed the Louis Brown Athletic Center after a major bequest, before becoming Jersey Mike's Arena in 2021 under a 20-year naming-rights deal. The compact, steep-seated arena is renowned as one of the toughest true road environments in the Big Ten, where Rutgers has knocked off top-ranked teams before raucous student crowds.
