Jack Trice Stadium

Jack Trice Stadium is the football home of the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames, Iowa, and a Big 12 Conference venue seating 61,500. It is the only FBS stadium named for an African American athlete, a distinction that gives the building deep symbolic weight on campus. Cyclones game days pack the stadium's bowl, including hillside seating in the corners, for one of the loudest environments in the Big 12. Its scale and history make it a point of pride for Iowa State athletics.

Opened in 1975, the stadium honors Jack Trice, Iowa State's first Black athlete, who died from injuries sustained in only his second varsity football game in 1923; the university renamed the stadium for him in 1997 after years of student advocacy. It has been expanded over the decades, reaching its current 61,500 capacity with corner hillside seating added in the mid-2010s, and set its single-game attendance record of 61,500 in a 2015 game against Northern Iowa. The stadium has hosted Cyclones football through the program's move into the Big 12 and its rise to national ranking in recent seasons. Jack Trice Stadium stands as both a football venue and a permanent campus memorial to its namesake.
