Cassell Coliseum

Cassell Coliseum is the on-campus arena of the Virginia Tech Hokies men's and women's basketball teams in Blacksburg, Virginia. The bowl-shaped, brick-clad building sits at the heart of the Blacksburg campus and is known for putting fans close to the action, with steep lower-bowl seating that presses right up against the court. Hokies crowds are famously loud, and the building has a reputation as one of the toughest true road environments in the ACC. Game days carry a homey, old-school college-basketball feel that newer arenas often lack.

Cassell Coliseum opened in 1962 and is named for Stuart K. Cassell, the longtime athletic director who oversaw its construction. It replaced the cramped War Memorial Gym and gave Virginia Tech basketball its first true home arena, later hosting the program through its moves from the Southern Conference to the Big East, Atlantic 10, and ACC. The building has also hosted wrestling, gymnastics, and commencement ceremonies over the decades. Renovations have modernized concourses and seating while preserving the tight, raucous bowl that gives Hokies basketball its home-court edge.
