Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium

Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium is the home of East Carolina Pirates football in Greenville, North Carolina, sitting along the Tar River on ECU's campus. It anchors the university's American Athletic Conference program and is known for a rowdy, purple-clad student section that packs the stands on fall Saturdays. The stadium's 'No Quarter' game-day branding and cannon-fire touchdown celebration give it a distinct identity among Group of Five venues. Tailgating along the river and a close, bowl-like seating configuration add to the atmosphere.

The stadium opened on September 21, 1963 as Ficklen Memorial Stadium with a modest 10,000 seats, and has been expanded repeatedly since — major additions came in the late 1960s, late 1970s, late 1990s, and 2009-2010 — to reach its current capacity. It was later renamed to honor athletic director Clarence Dowdy alongside the Ficklen family. The Pirates have used the stadium as the stage for the program's biggest eras, including its run of bowl appearances and Conference USA and American Athletic Conference success. The 'No Quarter' identity and Pirate cannon have become defining traditions of ECU game days.
