T-Mobile Park in downtown Seattle is the retractable-roof home of the Mariners. Its sliding roof shelters baseball from Pacific Northwest rain without fully enclosing the open-air feel of the ballpark, since the roof covers but doesn't seal the structure. Natural grass, brick facades and views out toward the city skyline give it a classic ballpark character. Game days pair a loyal Mariners fan base with the park's reputation as a pitcher-friendly yard.
It opened on July 15, 1999, as Safeco Field, replacing the Kingdome as the Mariners' home. The naming rights changed to T-Mobile Park after the 2018 season under a 25-year deal. The ballpark's signature retractable roof has made it a model for weather-resistant open-air stadiums elsewhere in MLB. It has hosted an MLB All-Star Game and remains one of the sport's most distinctive parks for its roof engineering.
