History & Legacy
T-Mobile Park opened on July 15, 1999, as Safeco Field, with the Mariners losing to the San Diego Padres 3-2. The $517 million ballpark was built to replace the Kingdome and features a retractable roof designed primarily for precipitation protection. The stadium was renamed T-Mobile Park in 2019. It has hosted the 2001 All-Star Game and numerous playoff games during the Mariners' successful runs. The venue is renowned for its excellent sightlines and intimate atmosphere.
