The Petersen Events Center opened in 2002 and replaced the Fitzgerald Field House. It is named after philanthropist John Petersen. The arena has hosted NCAA Tournament games and has been the site of Pitt's return to prominence. Its 12,508 capacity makes it one of the larger on-campus arenas.
