PayPal Park
Overview
PayPal Park is the intimate home of the San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer, located in San Jose, California. The stadium is known for its unique configuration with a steep grandstand on one side that creates an intense, European-style atmosphere. With a capacity under 20,000, it offers one of the most passionate fan experiences in American soccer. The venue features natural grass and an open design that lets the California sunshine in. PayPal Park has established itself as a model for soccer-specific stadiums in MLS.
History & Legacy
The stadium opened in 2015 as Avaya Stadium, built specifically for the Earthquakes at a cost of $100 million. PayPal acquired naming rights in 2020. It was the first cloud-enabled stadium in the world at opening. The Earthquakes moved from the larger Spartan Stadium to create a dedicated soccer home. The stadium's design drew inspiration from intimate European grounds. PayPal Park has hosted international friendlies and continues to be a key venue for the growth of soccer in the Bay Area.
