Thompson-Boling Arena, now also branded Food City Center under a 2023 naming-rights deal, is the home of the Tennessee Volunteers basketball programs in Knoxville. It is one of the largest on-campus arenas in the country and hosts the Vols in the SEC, delivering a deafening atmosphere for a fan base among the most passionate in college basketball. The arena's massive bowl and orange-and-white sea of fans give it a big-stage feel rivaling NBA venues. It stands as a cornerstone of Tennessee athletics alongside Neyland Stadium.
Opened in 1987, the arena originally seated over 24,000 fans, making it the largest on-campus basketball arena in the nation at the time. A major 2007 renovation added luxury suites and club seating, reducing capacity to its current 21,678 while modernizing the building. In August 2023, the University of Tennessee signed a 10-year naming-rights agreement with Food City, rebranding the venue as Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center. It remains a marquee SEC venue for both the men's program and the historically powerful Lady Vols, having hosted numerous NCAA tournament games over the decades.
