Knott Arena is the basketball home of the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers in Emmitsburg, Maryland, hosting the men's and women's programs in the MAAC. The multi-purpose arena also serves as the campus's venue for commencement and other large gatherings. Its small-school, hilltop setting gives Mount St. Mary's basketball a close-knit, community feel.
Opened in 1987, Knott Arena's home court was named in 2006 in honor of longtime coach Jim Phelan, who won a school-record 830 games between 1954 and 2003 - one of the most storied tenures in mid-major college basketball. The building has hosted the Mountaineers' MAAC basketball program for nearly four decades and doubles for graduation ceremonies that draw larger crowds than any game day. Phelan's legacy remains the defining thread of the arena's history.
