UTSA Convocation Center

The UTSA Convocation Center in San Antonio is the home of the UTSA Roadrunners basketball and volleyball teams. Known locally as "the Convo" or "the Bird Cage," it opened in the mid-1970s as an on-campus, multipurpose arena. Its intimate seating bowl keeps fans close to the action for one of the fastest-growing athletic programs in Texas. Beyond basketball, it doubles as a venue for campus events and community gatherings.

The Convocation Center opened in the mid-1970s as UTSA's first dedicated on-campus arena, anchoring the university's transition from a young commuter school into a full athletics program. It has hosted Roadrunners basketball and volleyball for decades and remains the program's primary competitive home even as UTSA has grown into a Conference USA and now American Athletic Conference member. The nickname "Bird Cage" reflects both the Roadrunners branding and the venue's close-knit gameday feel.
