Portman Road Stadium

Portman Road is the long-standing home of Ipswich Town, a traditional English ground in the heart of Suffolk. Enclosed on all four sides with stands close to the pitch, it retains an old-school intimacy even as the club has bounced between the Premier League and the divisions below. Match days draw a fiercely loyal Suffolk following, and the compact bowl keeps the noise concentrated and the atmosphere warm rather than cavernous. Ipswich Town have played at Portman Road since 1884, making it one of the older grounds in English football. It carries the legacy of the club's Sir Alf Ramsey and Sir Bobby Robson glory years, including the 1961-62 First Division title under Ramsey and a UEFA Cup triumph in 1981 under Robson. The ground has been steadily modernised over the decades from a simple pitch with terracing into an all-seater stadium, and in 2026 the club submitted plans for a further West Stand expansion. Despite the club's fluctuating fortunes, Portman Road has stayed a proud symbol of Suffolk football.
