Memorial Gymnasium is the historic home of the Vanderbilt Commodores basketball teams in Nashville, Tennessee. It is one of the most distinctive arenas in college basketball, prized for its old-school charm and steep, close seating that presses right up against the court.
Opened on December 6, 1952 as a memorial to Vanderbilt men and women who served in World War II, the gym originally seated 6,583 before expansions pushed capacity as high as 15,646 by 1969. Famous for its unusual layout with team benches at the ends of the court rather than the sidelines, Memorial Gym has been a quirky SEC fixture for over seven decades and a notoriously difficult place for visiting teams to adjust to.
