The Knapp Center is the home of Drake Bulldogs basketball on Drake University's campus in Des Moines, Iowa. Seating around 6,400, it is an intimate mid-major arena that gives Drake a strong home-court edge in the Missouri Valley Conference. The building also hosts Drake volleyball and campus commencement events. Its compact bowl keeps the Bulldogs' crowd close to the action on conference nights.
The arena opened on December 1, 1992, and is named for William Knapp, a Drake trustee whose family helped finance its construction. It has hosted Drake basketball's Missouri Valley Conference era for more than three decades, including NCAA Tournament seasons for the program. The Knapp Center replaced Drake's older on-campus facility and gave the Bulldogs a modern home for the 1990s and beyond. It remains the central venue for Drake hoops in Des Moines.
