War Memorial Stadium is the home of Wyoming Cowboys football in Laramie, Wyoming. Sitting at more than 7,200 feet of elevation, it is the highest-elevation stadium in FBS college football, a genuine physical challenge for visiting teams. The stadium's field is known as Jonah Field. Thin mountain air, wind, and often brutal early-season heat or late-season cold combine to make it one of the more distinctive road trips in college football.
Opened in 1950 as a memorial to Wyoming's fallen servicemen, the stadium has anchored Cowboys football for more than seven decades. Its defining trait is the altitude edge it gives Wyoming against opponents unaccustomed to competing a mile and a half above sea level. The Cowboys have used that home-field advantage to post some of their best records at War Memorial across multiple conference eras, from the WAC to the Mountain West. The stadium has undergone periodic capacity and facility updates while keeping its memorial character intact.
