Capital One Arena

It opened on December 2, 1997 as the MCI Center, later becoming Verizon Center in 2006 and Capital One Arena in 2017. The arena helped spark the revitalization of the Penn Quarter neighborhood from a rundown district into a thriving downtown hub. It hosted the Capitals' first Stanley Cup championship celebration in 2018, decades after the franchise's founding. The building has also been home to Georgetown Hoyas basketball and the WNBA's Mystics, cementing its role as Washington's central sports venue.
