Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium is the home of Utah State Aggies football, tucked against the mountains of Cache Valley in Logan, Utah. The playing surface is named for Aggie great and Pro Football Hall of Famer Merlin Olsen, while the stadium itself carries a naming-rights partnership with the convenience-store chain Maverik. Fall Saturdays bring a compact, boisterous crowd that presses right up against the field, and the surrounding valley and mountain backdrop give the venue a distinct high-altitude character. It's the centerpiece of Utah State's Mountain West football program and one of the more scenic settings in the conference.
The stadium opened in 1968 as Romney Stadium, honoring longtime coach and administrator Dick Romney, before being rebranded Maverik Stadium under a 2015 naming-rights deal. The Merlin Olsen Field designation followed to recognize the Utah State legend who went on to a Hall of Fame NFL career and Hollywood fame. Over more than five decades it has hosted Utah State through its moves between conferences, including its current Mountain West membership, and it's long been regarded as a tough environment for visiting teams thanks to Cache Valley's altitude and the tight seating bowl. The venue remains the anchor of Aggie football tradition in Logan.
