Newman Arena

Newman Arena, located inside Bartels Hall, is the home of Cornell Big Red basketball in Ithaca, New York, serving the university's Ivy League program. It's a compact, intimate on-campus arena that gives Cornell a genuine home-court edge in a league where road games are often played in older gyms. The arena also supports Cornell's broader athletics and recreation programs on the Bartels Hall complex.

The arena opened in January 1990 and became the home base for the most celebrated team in Cornell basketball history: the 2009-10 Big Red, who won 29 games, an Ivy League record, and became the first Ivy team since 1979 to reach the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, upsetting Temple and Wisconsin along the way before falling to eventual runner-up Kentucky. That run remains the high-water mark of Ivy League basketball in the modern era. Newman Arena has hosted Cornell's Ivy League home schedule ever since, serving as the program's steady home-court foundation.
