Glass Bowl

The Glass Bowl in Toledo is the home of the Toledo Rockets football team, nicknamed for the glass industry that shaped the city's identity. Completed in 1937 as a Works Progress Administration project, it began as a modest natural-bowl stadium and has since grown into a modern mid-major venue. Its distinctive name and blue-collar, industrial-city backdrop give Rockets home games a strong sense of place. It has long been recognized as one of the better Group of Six football environments in the country.

Originally known as University Stadium when it was completed in 1937 for about $313,000, the venue wasn't rechristened the "Glass Bowl" until renovations in 1946 formalized the tribute to Toledo's glassmaking industry. Seating has grown from an original 8,000 to today's capacity of roughly 26,000. It has been a fixture of Mid-American Conference football for generations and was recognized in 2026 among the top-10 Group of Six stadiums in the country.
