Carnesecca Arena is an on-campus arena in Queens, New York, used by the St. John's Red Storm basketball program. Seating in the range of 5,600 fans, it is the exclusive home of St. John's women's basketball and also hosts select men's non-conference and Big East games, with the Red Storm men splitting their bigger home dates with Madison Square Garden. Its compact, campus-court feel is a deliberate contrast to the Garden's scale. For St. John's fans, it's the intimate, close-quarters version of Red Storm basketball.
The arena opened on December 4, 1961 as Alumni Hall, serving as St. John's primary campus basketball facility for over four decades. On November 23, 2004, it was renamed Carnesecca Arena in honor of Lou Carnesecca, the Hall of Fame coach who led the Red Storm to national prominence over parts of four decades. It remains the program's true campus home, hosting practices and games year-round even as marquee matchups continue to draw the team into Manhattan.
