Gerald J. Ford Stadium

Gerald J. Ford Stadium is the on-campus home of SMU Mustangs football in University Park, an enclave surrounded by Dallas, Texas. The intimate bowl seats around 32,000 and sits at the edge of SMU's campus, giving it a compact, college-town feel rather than the scale of an NFL venue. Since SMU joined the ACC, the stadium has hosted a step up in competition while keeping its tight sightlines and tailgate-heavy Boulevard atmosphere. Game days blend Dallas glamour with genuine campus energy, especially for marquee non-conference matchups.

The stadium opened on September 2, 2000, returning Mustangs football to an on-campus venue after decades away, most notably at the Cotton Bowl. It is named for SMU alumnus and banker Gerald J. Ford, not the U.S. president, following his lead gift toward construction. The venue arrived as SMU worked to rebuild its program in the years following the NCAA's 1987 'death penalty,' giving the Mustangs a modern, right-sized home for that rebuild. It has since hosted SMU through stints in Conference USA, the American Athletic Conference, and now the ACC.
