State Farm Arena in downtown Atlanta is the home of the Hawks and the WNBA's Dream, a fully modernized arena built around wide-open concourses and a mix of local flavor. Fans can grab food from a bar and grill tied to the Zac Brown Band or get a trim at an in-arena barbershop run by Atlanta rapper Killer Mike, unusual touches that give the building a distinct local identity. A center-hung video board and corner screens keep the sightlines sharp from nearly every seat after a top-to-bottom renovation. It anchors pro basketball and hosts major concerts and touring shows across the Southeast.
The arena opened in 1999 as Philips Arena, replacing the old Omni Coliseum, and also housed the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers from 1999 until their 2011 move to Winnipeg. It's hosted the 2003 NBA All-Star Game, the 2008 NHL All-Star Game, and the 2013 NCAA Men's Final Four. A major 2017-18 renovation gutted much of the upper bowl for premium seating and modern amenities, effectively rebuilding the interior while keeping the original bones. It has carried the State Farm name since 2018, cementing its place as one of the more distinctly reinvented arenas in the NBA.
