Goodison Park in Liverpool was Everton FC's home for over 130 years, one of the oldest purpose-built football grounds in the world. Its classic four-stand layout, with steep terraces close to the pitch, gave it one of the most old-fashioned and beloved atmospheres in England. Since 2025 it has taken on a new life as the dedicated home of Everton's women's team, now the largest stadium in the UK built specifically for a women's club side. Even in its new role, the ground retains the same steep stands and tight sightlines that made it famous.
Opened in 1892 after Everton left Anfield following a rent dispute, Goodison Park hosted top-flight football continuously for well over a century, including matches at the 1966 World Cup. Its distinctive Archibald Leitch-designed stands and criss-cross balcony became instantly recognisable features of English football grounds. Everton played their final men's match there in 2025 before moving to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium on the Bramley-Moore Dock waterfront. Rather than redevelop or demolish it, the club repurposed Goodison as Everton Women's permanent home from the 2025-26 season, preserving the ground's legacy for a new generation of fans.
