UNC Wilmington basketball is one of the CAA's most consistently competitive programs, playing home games at Trask Coliseum on the North Carolina coast. The Seahawks have built a reputation as a league-tournament juggernaut, racking up more CAA titles than almost anyone else in the conference. Their 2016-17 squad, which set the program's single-season wins record, remains a fan-favorite era.
UNCW basketball dates to 1951 and moved to Division I in 1976, becoming a founding member of the CAA in 1985. Under coaches Jerry Wainwright and Buzz Peterson, the Seahawks won a league-record run of CAA tournament titles beginning in 2000, including three straight from 2002-2004, and reached the NCAA Tournament's second round in 2002 with an upset of USC.
