Towson Tigers basketball plays at SECU Arena just outside Baltimore, competing in the always-competitive CAA. Long a program defined by close calls, Towson broke through with its first-ever outright CAA regular-season title in recent seasons. The Tigers' fan base has stuck through decades of near misses in pursuit of a long-awaited return to the NCAA Tournament.
Towson's program moved to Division I in 1979 after a run in Division II. Its high point came in the late 1980s and early 1990s under coach Terry Rooney, with back-to-back ECC titles and NCAA Tournament trips in 1990 and 1991 — the program's only two NCAA appearances to date. Since joining the CAA in 2002, Towson has added six regular-season and three tournament titles.
