The UTSA Roadrunners play home games at the UTSA Convocation Center in San Antonio, a program built almost entirely in the modern era of college basketball. UTSA has changed conference homes several times as it has grown, landing most recently in the American Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners' identity is that of a program still building its national profile in a city better known for the Spurs.
UTSA basketball played its first-ever game in 1981 and has made four NCAA tournament appearances, most recently in 2011, when the Roadrunners picked up the program's first-ever tournament win over Alabama State before falling to Ohio State. Coach Ken Burmeister led UTSA to its first NCAA bid in 1988. The program has moved through the Southland, Western Athletic, and Conference USA leagues before joining the American Athletic Conference in 2023-24.
