Canisius Golden Griffins

The Canisius Golden Griffins are the men's basketball program of Canisius University in Buffalo, New York, playing home games at the Koessler Athletic Center. One of the oldest basketball programs in the country, Canisius carries deep Western New York roots and a long-running rivalry with regional MAAC opponents. The Golden Griffins are known for a proud early-tournament history and a program-defining conference title run in the mid-1990s.

Canisius basketball began in 1903 and the program joined the MAAC in 1982. The Golden Griffins made four early NCAA Tournament appearances (1955, 1956, 1957, 1996), reaching regional semifinals in both 1956 and 1957. Canisius has won eight MAAC regular-season titles and captured its lone MAAC Tournament championship in 1996, defeating Fairfield 52-46 as a fifth seed to punch its ticket back to the NCAA Tournament.
