Akron Zips

The Akron Zips are the men's basketball program of the University of Akron, playing home games at James A. Rhodes Arena. Akron has become the Mid-American Conference's most dominant program in the 2020s, capturing an unprecedented run of consecutive tournament titles. The Zips play disciplined, defense-oriented basketball and have turned Akron into a March-bound mid-major regular.

Akron basketball dates back to 1901, when the school was known as Buchtel College, and the Zips joined the MAC in 1992. The program has won six MAC Tournament titles (2009, 2011, 2013, 2022, 2024, 2025) and nine MAC regular-season championships under coaches like Keith Dambrot, becoming the first team in league history to three-peat as tournament champion. Akron has reached the NCAA Tournament eight times but is still seeking its first tournament win.
