Hampton Pirates

The Hampton Pirates bring a giant-killing reputation to the Coastal Athletic Association, playing home games at the Hampton Convocation Center in Virginia. The program built its national name during a long run in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, most famously as a 15-seed that toppled a 2-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Hampton's move through the Big South and into the MEAC before landing in the CAA reflects a program that has repeatedly reinvented itself while staying competitive. The Pirates carry that upset pedigree into their current conference home.

Hampton's signature moment came in the 2000-01 NCAA Tournament, when the 15th-seeded Pirates upset 2-seed Iowa State in one of the tournament's most memorable first-round shocks. Across its time in the MEAC, Hampton won four regular-season titles (2001, 2002, 2016, 2018) and six MEAC Tournament championships (2001, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2015, 2016), reaching the NCAA Tournament six times overall. The program has since transitioned to the Big South and, most recently, the Coastal Athletic Association.
