South Carolina State Bulldogs

The South Carolina State Bulldogs play Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference basketball out of the S-H-M Memorial Center in Orangeburg. The program built its reputation under longtime coach Cy Alexander, who turned the Bulldogs into a consistent MEAC contender in both the regular season and conference tournament. South Carolina State basketball has made multiple NCAA Tournament trips, even without a tournament win to date. The Bulldogs remain one of the MEAC's more tradition-rich programs, regularly in the mix for conference titles.

South Carolina State first broke through in 1988-89, winning the program's first-ever MEAC Tournament title and earning a berth in the NCAA Division I Tournament. Under Cy Alexander, the Bulldogs won five regular-season and six MEAC tournament championships across his tenure, compiling a 204-80 record. The program has reached the NCAA Tournament five times overall, most recently in 2003, and shared a MEAC regular-season title as recently as 2004.
