Morgan State Bears

The Morgan State Bears represent one of the oldest HBCUs in the country, bringing Baltimore a basketball program rooted in more than a century and a half of history. Games at Hill Field House carry the weight of a proud MEAC founding member with a genuine national championship pedigree. The Bears' identity is built on toughness and program continuity, values that trace back to their earliest CIAA days. Morgan State's basketball program built its reputation early under coach Eddie Hurt, winning multiple CIAA titles in the 1930s. The Bears reached their peak in 1974, capturing the NCAA Division II national championship under coach Nathaniel Frazier. Morgan State was a founding member of the MEAC in 1970 and moved to Division I in 1984. Under coach Todd Bozeman, the Bears won back-to-back MEAC Tournament championships, giving the program its signature Division I postseason success.
