Boise State's basketball roots trace back to 1933, when the school was still Boise Junior College. The program grew alongside the university's transformation from a two-year college into a four-year university in 1969 and full university status in 1974. Its high point came in 2022, when head coach Leon Rice led the Broncos to a program-record 27 wins and the Mountain West regular-season championship. The team has never reached the NCAA Tournament's second weekend.
