UNLV's Runnin' Rebels are one of the most recognizable brands in college basketball, forever tied to their electrifying, fast-break style and the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip. Home games at the Thomas & Mack Center carry a showbiz energy unlike almost any other campus in America. The program's identity — fast, physical, and confident — was forged under legendary coach Jerry Tarkanian and remains the standard the Mountain West measures itself against. UNLV basketball is as much a Las Vegas institution as anything on the Strip.
History & Legacy
UNLV basketball's defining chapter came under Jerry Tarkanian, culminating in the 1990 national championship — a 103-73 demolition of Duke that remains the largest margin of victory in a title game. Led by Tournament MVP Anderson Hunt and star Larry Johnson, that Runnin' Rebels team went on a 45-game winning streak and stands as one of the most dominant squads in NCAA history. UNLV remains the last team from outside a power conference to win a national championship.
