San Jose State Spartans

San Jose State Spartans basketball represents the oldest public university in California, playing home games at the Provident Credit Union Event Center in the heart of Silicon Valley. The program has historically operated outside the national spotlight, competing as a mid-major in a region dominated by tech culture rather than college sports fervor. Spartan teams tend to be built on grit and depth rather than marquee talent. San Jose State basketball is a modest but persistent presence in the Mountain West.

San Jose State basketball dates back to 1909 and adopted the Spartans name in 1922. The program has made three NCAA Tournament appearances, in 1951, 1980, and 1996, losing in the first round each time, and won the Western Athletic Conference tournament title in 1996. San Jose State has never advanced past the opening round of the NCAA Tournament or won a national championship.
