Wagner Seahawks

The Wagner Seahawks represent a small private college perched on Grymes Hill in Staten Island, competing in the Northeast Conference out of the compact Spiro Sports Center. As a low-major program, Wagner basketball leans on close-knit community support and a scrappy, underdog mentality against bigger regional rivals. The Seahawks have occasionally punched above their weight in the NEC, chasing the conference's automatic NCAA Tournament bid each season. It's a program defined by its small-school character within the New York City sports landscape.

Wagner College basketball's first recorded season came in 1921-22. The program has made NCAA Tournament appearances in 2003 and 2024 as the Northeast Conference's automatic qualifier. Notable alumnus Earl Monroe, who starred for Wagner in the mid-1960s before becoming a Basketball Hall of Famer with the Baltimore Bullets and New York Knicks, remains the program's most celebrated name.
