The Morehead State Eagles play home games at Ellis T. Johnson Arena in the eastern Kentucky hills, a charter member of the Ohio Valley Conference that has become one of its most consistent winners. Morehead State has built a reputation as a program capable of pulling off March Madness upsets against much bigger programs, none more memorable than a 2011 NCAA Tournament win over Louisville. The Eagles bring small-town Kentucky pride to a conference they've called home since its founding.
Morehead State basketball began competition in the 1948-49 season as the Ohio Valley Conference itself was founded, and the Eagles have remained a league member ever since. The program has won 11 OVC regular-season titles and six tournament championships, sending Morehead State to nine NCAA Tournament appearances, most memorably a 2011 upset of Louisville. The Eagles have continued that tradition into the modern era, reaching the tournament again in 2021 and 2024.
