Navy Midshipmen

The Navy Midshipmen represent the U.S. Naval Academy, playing home games at Alumni Hall in historic Annapolis, Maryland. Discipline, structure, and team-first basketball define the program, mirroring the academy's broader values of service and preparation. Navy's players balance rigorous military training with Division I competition, a combination that makes the program unique in college basketball. The Midshipmen have long carried an identity built on toughness and unselfish play rather than individual star power.

The U.S. Naval Academy was established in 1845, and its men's basketball program began varsity play in the 1907-08 season. Navy was retroactively recognized by the Helms Athletic Foundation as a top team for the 1912-13 season, well before the NCAA tournament existed. The Midshipmen have made 11 NCAA tournament appearances, reaching the Elite Eight three times, in 1947, 1954, and 1986, but have not returned to the tournament since 1998. David Robinson's mid-1980s teams remain the program's most celebrated era.
