The Texas A&M Aggies bring physical, defense-first basketball to Reed Arena in College Station, backed by one of the most tradition-rich fan bases in college sports. Aggie basketball has steadily built itself into a legitimate SEC contender, leaning on toughness and rebounding rather than flash. Reed Arena's passionate crowds give Texas A&M a genuine home-court edge in one of the country's toughest conferences. The program's rise has added a new dimension to a campus long defined first by football.
Texas A&M University was founded in 1876, and its men's basketball program dates to 1912. The Aggies have reached the NCAA tournament 18 times, most recently in 2026, with their deepest run coming in 2007 when a No. 3 seed, the program's highest ever, advanced to the Sweet 16 under coach Billy Gillispie. Longtime coach Shelby Metcalf guided six of those tournament trips across his 26 years leading the program. Despite that history, Texas A&M has never won a national championship.
