Overview
The Houston Christian Huskies (known for decades as Houston Baptist) bring faith-based tradition and a compact home gym in Sharp Gymnasium to the Southland Conference. History & Legacy
The university was founded in 1960 as Houston Baptist College, opening its doors in 1963. The basketball program has moved through several conference homes — the Trans America Athletic Conference, the NAIA, the Great West Conference — before settling in the Southland Conference in 2013-14. The Huskies' only NCAA Tournament appearance came in 1984, and the program was renamed Houston Christian in September 2022 alongside the university's broader rebrand.
