Incarnate Word Cardinals

The Incarnate Word Cardinals represent San Antonio's largest Catholic university, playing home games at the McDermott Convocation Center. A relative newcomer to Division I, UIW made the jump from Division II in 2013 and has spent its Southland Conference tenure building toward postseason relevance. The Cardinals' program reflects the university's broader growth story — young, ambitious, and still chasing its first signature March moment.

Incarnate Word transitioned to NCAA Division I and joined the Southland Conference in 2013, serving a postseason-ineligibility period during the transition until 2018. The Cardinals reached the Southland tournament for the first time in 2020-21 and have yet to make an NCAA Tournament appearance, leaving the program still in search of its breakthrough season.
