The McNeese State Cowboys bring a national-championship pedigree to the Southland Conference, playing home games at The Legacy Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana. A perennial Southland contender, McNeese has been one of the league's most decorated programs, racing to the NCAA Tournament repeatedly and picking up the program's first-ever tournament win in 2025. The Cowboys' blend of tradition and modern March success has made them one of the Southland's marquee names.
McNeese State's basketball program won the NAIA national championship in 1956 before moving to Division I in 1972-73. The Cowboys have captured the Southland Conference regular-season title 8 times and the tournament title 5 times, reaching five NCAA Tournaments. In 2025, McNeese beat Clemson for the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament win, and the Cowboys returned to the Big Dance again in 2026.
