Nicholls Colonels

The Nicholls Colonels represent Nicholls State University out of Thibodaux, Louisiana, playing in the intimate confines of Stopher Gymnasium. As a longtime Southland Conference member, Nicholls has built its program around scrappy, blue-collar basketball in Louisiana's bayou country. The Colonels don't get the spotlight of the sport's bigger names, but they've carved out real moments on the national stage. It's classic mid-major basketball — tight budgets, tighter communities, and a fight-for-everything mentality.

Nicholls fielded its first basketball team in 1958 and has spent its Division I history in the Southland Conference. The Colonels reached the NCAA Tournament twice, in 1995 and 1998, both times as the Southland's automatic qualifier. Neither trip produced a tournament win, but both appearances remain proud milestones for a program that has otherwise built its identity through steady conference competitiveness rather than deep March runs. Nicholls continues to chase a return trip to the Big Dance.
