The UT Arlington Mavericks are the men's basketball program of the University of Texas at Arlington, playing home games at the modern College Park Center. UTA basketball has spent most of its history in the Southland Conference before moving to the Western Athletic Conference, building a program known for gritty, physical play in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. While national tournament trips have been rare, the Mavericks have had stretches of real regional relevance, including a school-record 27-win season in 2016-17.
The University of Texas at Arlington traces its roots to Arlington College, founded in 1895, and fielded its first Division I basketball team in 1959 as a founding member of the Southland Conference in 1963. UTA won the 2008 Southland Conference tournament to reach just its third NCAA Tournament appearance, falling to top-seeded Memphis (a game later vacated due to Memphis NCAA violations). The Mavericks also won Southland regular-season titles in 2012 and shared the 2004 regular-season crown before eventually moving on to the Western Athletic Conference.
