Georgia State Panthers

The Georgia State Panthers are the men's basketball program of Georgia State University, playing home games at the GSU Convocation Center in downtown Atlanta. The Panthers became a national name in the mid-2010s behind coach Ron Hunter and his son R.J. Hunter, delivering one of the most iconic shots in modern NCAA Tournament history. Georgia State basketball combines big-city Atlanta recruiting with a program culture built on upset-minded, fearless play in March.

Georgia State University was founded in 1913, and its basketball program began competing at the Division I level in 1963-64, becoming a charter member of the Sun Belt Conference in 1976. The Panthers have reached the NCAA Tournament six times (1991, 2001, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2022), most famously in 2015 when R.J. Hunter's deep, falling-out-of-bounds three-pointer sealed a stunning upset of 3-seed Baylor. Under Ron Hunter, Georgia State won Sun Belt titles in four of his final six seasons, cementing the program as one of the conference's dominant forces of the era.
