The Georgia Southern Eagles are the men's basketball program of Georgia Southern University, playing home games at Hanner Fieldhouse in Statesboro. The Eagles built their national reputation in the 1980s and early 1990s under longtime coach Frank Kerns, and the program remains a fixture of small-town Georgia basketball with a loyal campus following. Georgia Southern has since settled into the Sun Belt Conference after a long run in the Southern Conference.
Georgia Southern fielded its first basketball team in 1926 and reached Division I in 1971. Coach Frank Kerns led the Eagles to three NCAA Tournament appearances (1983, 1987, 1992), the high-water mark of the program's history. Georgia Southern later won its first Southern Conference championship in 2002 under coach Jeff Price, and across its history the Eagles have claimed seven regular-season and three conference tournament championships.
