Portland Pilots

The Portland Pilots play home games at the Chiles Center, a West Coast Conference program based in the Pacific Northwest's largest city. Portland basketball has long lived in the shadow of the conference's Gonzaga-Saint Mary's rivalry, but it remains a fixture of the league with a loyal local following. The Pilots' identity is rooted in patient, defense-first basketball befitting their rainy hometown.

Portland basketball dates to 1922 and competed in the NAIA before joining Division I. The Pilots have made two NCAA Tournament appearances, in 1959 and 1996, though both ended in first-round losses. The program has called the Chiles Center home since it opened in 1984. Portland has yet to break through for a signature deep tournament run, but its long tenure in the West Coast Conference has kept the Pilots a steady, if quiet, presence in Pacific Northwest college basketball.
