San Diego Toreros

The San Diego Toreros play in the Jenny Craig Pavilion, a West Coast Conference program built around steady, well-organized basketball in one of the country's most livable cities. The Toreros compete in the shadow of conference heavyweights Gonzaga and Saint Mary's but have carved out their own moments of March Madness glory. San Diego's identity leans on toughness and defense rather than flash.

San Diego basketball moved to Division I in the 1979-80 season and has since won two West Coast Conference regular-season titles (1984, 1987) and two conference tournament championships (2003, 2008). The Toreros have reached the NCAA Tournament four times, with their deepest run coming in 2008 when they upset the University of Connecticut in the first round before falling in the second. The program has yet to reach a regional final or claim a national title. Still, its conference championship history gives San Diego a real foothold in West Coast Conference lore.
