The North Alabama Lions play their home games at Flowers Hall in Florence, Alabama, bringing a program with real pedigree into the Atlantic Sun Conference. UNA has one of the strongest basketball traditions of any school its size in the state, built on a run of Division II excellence before its move up to Division I. The Lions carry that history into ASUN play as a program still chasing its first Division I NCAA Tournament bid.
The University of North Alabama traces its roots to 1830. Its basketball program became a national power at the Division II level, winning NCAA Division II national championships in 1979 and 1991 — making UNA the first school in Alabama to win a basketball national championship and one of only four Division II programs with multiple titles. The Lions transitioned to NCAA Division I in 2018, joining the ASUN Conference, and have not yet reached the Division I tournament.
