Tulsa Golden Hurricane

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane compete out of the Reynolds Center on the University of Tulsa campus, carrying a scrappy, underdog identity in American Athletic Conference play. Tulsa has never been the biggest name in college basketball, but the program has built a reputation for punching above its weight in postseason tournaments. Legendary coach Nolan Richardson put Tulsa on the national map in the early 1980s, a legacy the Golden Hurricane still lean on today. A 2026 NIT Championship run reaffirmed Tulsa's identity as a program that peaks when it matters most.

Tulsa's basketball program dates back to 1907, when the school was still known as Kendall College. The Golden Hurricane's signature moments came in the National Invitation Tournament: Nolan Richardson led Tulsa to the 1981 NIT title over Syracuse, and Buzz Peterson's squad won a second NIT crown in 2001 over Alabama. Tulsa has made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances across its history and reached another NIT championship game in 2026, continuing a long tradition of postseason relevance without a NCAA title.
