The Montana Grizzlies are the flagship program of the Big Sky Conference, playing in front of a rowdy, sold-out Dahlberg Arena in Missoula. A charter member of the Big Sky since its founding, Montana has built a reputation as one of the league's most consistent winners and a frequent NCAA Tournament participant out of the mid-major ranks.
The University of Montana has fielded basketball teams since the early 1900s, adopting the Grizzlies name in the 1920s. Montana was a charter member of the Big Sky Conference when it formed in 1963 and has remained one of its top programs ever since. The Grizzlies' best NCAA Tournament run came in 1975, when the team advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. Montana has claimed numerous Big Sky regular-season and tournament titles over the decades but has not won an NCAA championship.
