The Idaho State Bengals play home games at Reed Gym in Pocatello, carrying one of the Big Sky Conference's most storied tournament moments in program history. Despite being one of the smaller markets in Division I basketball, Idaho State has a legitimate claim to conference relevance thanks to a run that remains the deepest NCAA Tournament advance by any Big Sky team.
Idaho State University was founded in 1901 as the Academy of Idaho, becoming a full four-year university in 1963. The Bengals' signature moment came in 1977, when the team upset UCLA in the West Regional semifinal and advanced to the Elite Eight — still the furthest any Big Sky Conference team has reached in the NCAA Tournament. Idaho State has appeared in eleven NCAA tournaments overall but has not won a national championship.
